HANDWRITING
The students brainstormed "ere" words that say "air" such as where and there. They also thought of some French words including mere and pere (which should have accents.) The students then chose three words to write three times and wrote the date once.
MATH
We continued discussing criteria for a good story problem and the students came up with the following list:
Statement #1
- needs to be a sentence with a noun and a verb
- needs a number
Statement #2
- needs to be a sentence with a noun and a verb
- needs a number
- needs an adding or a subtracting word
Question
- needs to be a question with a noun and a verb
- needs a question such as How many more . . . ? or How many left . . .? or How much . . .?
All three parts need to be checked for COPS.
Capitalization
Overall Appearance (neatness)
Punctuation
Sentences (make sense)
Examples:
Kale had 23 cookies.
He ate 17.
How many cookies did Kale have left?
Megan had 39 books.
She bought 15 more books at the Book Fair.
How many books does she have altogether?
SCIENCE
We used the information we discovered yesterday about states of matter to fill in a worksheet in our duotangs.
SHOW & SHARE
This week's theme is "Something Green" and we saw lots of RoughRider gear, a turtle stuffie, and a motorcycle. We also saw a drawing of a leprechaun and heard about who likes the colour green. The students send a big thank-you to Mrs. Leeson for sending some green mint jelly leaves and "gold" coins for a special treat.
